Coates Design
A connection to the island’s creative life
For many people arriving on Bainbridge, the Museum of Art is an early introduction to the island’s creative life. Its architects, Coates Design, and Matt Coates also supported the 2026 Asian Arts & Heritage Festival.

A museum shaped with the community
The Bainbridge Island Museum of Art’s curved form grew out of conversations with the community. Coates Design presented a series of physical models and invited people to comment on the designs. Elements of the community’s preferred model helped shape the building that stands near the ferry terminal today.
That project is one part of the studio’s connection to arts on Bainbridge. Its festival sponsorship added support for the performances, cultural learning, and gatherings that bring people together across the island.
Festival contribution
Supporting the arts beyond the museum walls
We thank Matt Coates and Coates Design for supporting the 2026 festival and its celebration of Asian arts and heritage. Their sponsorship is another contribution to the island’s cultural life, alongside the studio’s architectural work.
This story recognizes 2026 support. We’ll share 2027 partner announcements as they are confirmed.
